30 Days of Books- Day 30: Your favorite book of all time

Då kom vi till det sista 30 Days of Books inlägget… det har gått fort! Jag kommer att sakna den dagliga bokövningen. ^.^

Jag har faktiskt en! –En all time favorit alltså, för vanligtvis brukar det vara svårt att komma på endast en favorit, eftersom det finns så många fina böcker där ute. Men efter att ha tänkt på det i ungefär 30 dagar är jag rätt säker på att All Quiet on the Western Front (På västfronten inget nytt) av Erich Maria Remarque är min favorit. Jag läste den på engelskan i gymnasiet och blev så berörd! Jag älskade den här boken så mycket att jag inte kunde förmå mig att skiljas ifrån den, och när alla skolböckerna skulle tillbaka till skolan så blev den ”bortglömd” i min hylla (usch, jag är en dålig människa, jag vet)! Sedan dess har boken följt med mig överallt.

Det är svårt att förklara skälet till att jag gillar den här boken så mycket, för att den är rätt mörk och hemsk— den handlar om en av de mörkaste perioderna i modern historia: första världskriget. Som läsare blir man utsatt mycket opåkallad död, och man är olycklig och gråtfärdigt nästan hela tiden. Men karaktären Paul Bäumer är så välskriven, han bara griper tag om ens hjärta.

Finally, we have come to the last of my 30 days post... This tag went by too quickly! I will miss this daily bookexercise. ^.^

I actually have one! -An all time favorite book, I mean. 'Cause normally, it's really hard for me to just pick one favorite, since there so many awesome books out there. But after thinking about this for like 30 days, I'm sure that All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque is my all time favorite. I read it in English lit class back in high school and I was just...moved! I loved this book so much that I that I could not bring myself to part with it, and when we had to bring back all the school looks at the end of the year I happened to "forget" it on my bookshelf (I'm a bad person, I know). And since then, this book has follwed me everywhere. 

It's hard to explain why I like it so much, since it's a very dark and sad- it's about one of the darkest periods in modern history: WWI. As a reader, one is exposed to so much death and one is constantly on the brink of tears. But the main character Paul Bäumer is so well written that he just grabbed a hold of my heart and did not let go.

30 Days of Books- Day 29: A book everyone hated but you liked

En bok som jag kommer ihåg att alla hatade var Dangerous Spaces (Farliga Drömmar) av Margaret Mahy. Boken var inte en favorit när min klass läste den: alla tyckte att den var tråkig och löjlig. En del recenter på Goodreads och Amazon håller med, och Dangerous Spaces har även blivit anklagad för att vara den svagaste Mahy-roman. T_T

Men jag tycker att den här boken är bra, och skulle även kunna tänka mig att läsa den igen om jag får tag i den. :) Det är var min fösta Mahybok, jag gillade den så mycket att jag ville ha mer Margaret Mahy! Storyn är lagom kuslig, inte för mycket skrämande övernaturliga saker. Jag tror att det är faktumet att allt det mystiska spelas ut i en drömvärld som gör att jag kan läsa detta; verkligheten får vara relativt ostörd. Jag är ingen stor fan av böcker med övernaturliga inslag, men jag tycker att Mahy är ganska bra på att få det övernaturliga att fungera för mig.

A book that I remember everyone hated was Dangerous Spaces by Margaret Mahy. It was definetly not well liked when my class read it: everyone thought it was boring and ridiculous. And reviewers on Goodreads and Amazon tend to agree... and Dangerous Spaces has also been accused of being Mahy's weakest novel. T_T

But I think this is quite a good book, and I'm even considering rereading it, if I get my hands on it. :) This was the first book my Margaret Mahy that I've read and I liked it so much that I wanted to read her other novels! The story has just the right amount of scary supernatural elements. I think its the fact that all the supernatual stuff happens in a dreamwork that made me want to continue reading this book: i.e. reality gets to remain undisturbed. I'm not a big fan of the paranormal genre, but I think Mahy is really good at making paranormal work for me. 

30 Days of Books- Day 28: Favorite title

Just nu är min favorit titel The Distant Hours (som är titeln till Kate Mortons tredje roman). Jag blev lite förtrollad av titeln tror jag, för jag köpte boken för titelns skull, utan att läsa baksidestexten. Men jag anade att boken skulle handla om gamla mörka hemligheter, och fina engelska miljöer. Kombinationen av orden ”Distant” och ”Hours” känns helt rätt: lite surrealism blandat med nostalgi.

At the moment, my favorite title is The Distant Hours (the title to Kate Morton's third novel). I think this title cast a spell on me, because I will admit that the only reason I bought this book was the title-- I didn't even read the back cover! But I did get a sense from the title that it was going to be about old murky secrets, and wonderful English country side environments.

It must be the combination of the word "distant" with "hours" that has the perfect feel: a little surrealism mixed with nostalgia. I applaud the person that came up with the title, since it really does capture the essence of the story for me. 

30 Days of Books- Day 27: The most surprising plot twist or ending

Ju fler böcker jag läser, desto bättre blir jag på att förutspå möjliga plot twists— så det är inte ofta jag inte har någon aning om vad författaren håller på med. Och eftersom jag inte kan komma på ett fall då jag verkligen blev förvånad, så tänkte jag tala om den häftigaste plot twist jag läste om i år (för en plot twist kan vara häftig även om man inte blir förvånad!): 

Slutet av A Million Suns som är andra boken i Across the Universe-trilogin av Beth Revis. Jag vill inte spoila det för er som inte har läst böckerna ännu… Jag hade två teorier kring vad som hände med rymdskeppet Godspeed, så jag var inte hundra på att Teori Nummer 2 ([SPOILER] att de hade redan kommit till Alpha Centauri och att det inte vågade landa) var den rätta, eftersom Teori Nummer 1 ([SPOILER] att skeppet aldrig hade åkt ifrån jorden, utan att de var in orbit runt jorden) var också ganska rimlig. ^.^ Beth Revis är bra på att komma på riktigt coola idér... jag är lite avundsjuk på hennes förmåga...

The more books I read, the better I become at predicting possible plot twists, so it's very rare that I have absolutely no idea what the author is up to anymore. And since I can't really think of a case where I was really surprised about a twist or ending, I thought I'd talk about the coolest plot twist I read this year ('cause a plot twist can still be cool, even if I can see it coming for a while): 

The ending of A Million Suns, the second book in the Across the Universe trilogy by Beth Revis. I don't want to spoil it for those of you who have not read the books yet (Just, go! Go read them now!)... I had two theories about what happened to the spaceship Goodspeed, so I was not 100% sure Theory No. 2 ([SPOILER] that they hand already arrive to Alpha Centauri and that they were reluctant to land) was the right one, because Theory No. 1 ([SPOILER] that the ship never left Earth's orbit) was also quite plausible. ^.^ Beth Revis is good at coming up with really cool ideas... and I'm a little jealous of her amazing ability.
