Egentligen, föredrar jag fristående romaner framför serier. Men i år har jag läst några stycken, och alla av dem hör till genren ungdomsböcker. Det känns som att man inte kan få tag i en ungdomsbok som inte är en del av en triologi, nuförtiden. I alla fall, så har de flesta serier jag läst i år varit ganska bra, så jag ska inte klaga. ^^

Men om jag ska välja en favorit så får jag väl gå med Books of Ember serien. Jag tycker
verkligen om DuPraus sätt att skriva. Hon är så bra på att få sina karaktärer
att agera som om de vore gjorda av kött och blod. Och hon skriver aldrig om
goda och onda personer utan hon har alltid ett nyanserat perspektiv; hon
skriver på ett sådant sätt så att man kan förstå att olika omständigheter gör att
folk agerar på olika sätt. Man får komma ihåg att de här är inga vuxen-böcker,
utan målgruppen är ungdomar mellan 10-14: det är inte ofta man råkar på en
barnbok som på ett underhållande och nyanserat sätt behandlar frågor kring
moral och människans natur.
I usually prefer stand-alone novels over book series, but this year I'm been reading quite a few of these young adult series. Sometimes I feel like I cannot get a hold of a YA book that isn't part of a trilogy. Anyway, I shouldn't be complaining, most of the series I've read so far have been quite good.
But If I'm going to pick my favorite, it would have to be The Books of Ember series. I really enjoyed DuPrau's writing style; she's really good at making the characters come alive. Furthermore, she never writes about good and evil, but creates conflict by tapping into the nuanced nature of the human condition. Of course, these are not adult books, but are aimed at children between 10-14, and it's not often that one comes across a children's book that tackles moral questions without oversimplifications while remaining entertaining.
